Trinity Exams

Trinity College London Examinations are open to all Drama and Musical Theatre students at Northern School of Performing Arts aged 8 and up. Many of our students have taken examinations and have succeeded in gaining great results! If your child has never taken an exam in drama / performing but would like to start and work their way up the grades, Trinity Exams are a fantastic place to start! They are recognised as a qualification globally which will be invaluable later down the line not to mention how much they help with confidence building. At NSPA, we have had a 100% pass rate and are so proud of our Trinity students, both past and present. The process of preparing and taking the exams is brilliant for boosting confidence, memory skills, gaining performance experience, learning self-discipline for home practice and of course gaining a certificate and qualification which recognises all the hard work and talent. To sit a Trinity Exam you must attend either a Drama, Singing or Musical Theatre class at NSPA. Please contact Sophia for further information.

Dance Exams

All graded dance classes will be taught a syllabus to enable students to sit their exam, usually in July/August

Notice will be sent out in Term 1/2 with information to apply to sit exams

It is not compulsory to sit the exam but it is a great achievement and showcases the work the students have been learning diligently over the first two terms

The cost of the exam is set by the examining board and your fee will also include an amount for a mock exam and extra exam preparation classes. The fee will be advised in the information but can range from $75 to $175

Rosette classes, for the younger students have a performance based exam with no grading. The teacher is present for Pre Grades 1 and 2, students perform on their own for Pre Grade 3. Parents can enter the exam studio at the end to see their child presented with a Rosette.

Theatre Shows

SHOW POLICY

Taking part in the End of Year Dance Show or Musical Theatre Production is not compulsory although is highly recommended

THEATRE SHOW – You will be invited to audition for the Musical Theatre shows. A non-refundable show participation fee is due on application. This fee is a contribution towards venue hire, costumes, rights and technical hire. Rehearsals are timetabled separately to normal classes, usually on Thursdays and Saturdays

Dance Shows

SHOW POLICY

Taking part in the End of Year Dance Show or Musical Theatre Production is not compulsory although is highly recommended

DANCE SHOW – A small production fee will be charged which includes access to all photographs taken at Dress Rehearsals. A costume fee will be invoiced which helps to cover sewing, purchasing of costumes and fabrics, laundering, storage and handling of costumes. All dance classes including Mini Movers will start preparing for the end of year show after exams in term 3. Practise will be in your normal timetabled class times. There may be a change to the timetable to combine show classes.

You do not get to keep your show costume.

Attendance at show rehearsals is compulsory.

During the show period, studio rehearsals and theatre week, there are no normal timetabled classes.

Musical Theatre Showcase

MUSICAL THEATRE SHOWCASE – An informal Showcase is usually held in Term 2 and Term 4

This is held at a theatre but with no costumes, make up, lights and set

It is a great way to gain some stage experience for the students and showcase to families what they have been learning in their classes

MUSIC SHOWCASE – A Showcase for our Singing and Guitar students is held twice a year. This is usually held at our studios and is a perfect opportunity for the students to showcase their learning and growth over the terms

Mini Movers Show

Our Mini Movers will have their own show. Each class will perform two dances in the Show, ballet and jazz or ballet and tap. The theme will be based on the Main Dance Show

All dances will be learnt in your class time and you are not needed for a Dress Rehearsal

The show times will be at the same time as the main dance show, and also include some special guest performances. The shows are then followed by an end of term party at the venue
